Yesterday I sorted through my many many CDs! A few faves survived the cut and will be loaded onto my PC for future download onto an iPod. There’s no CD player in Van-Go and a girl’s gotta jam on the road! Also, I took some 8mm film and a few cassettes to be transferred to DVD/CD. That’s something I’ve wanted to do for 25 years!!!! Can’t wait to get them back so my kids can see and hear themselves from when they were little tykes! Finally, I found a bike that FOLDS UP!!! Camping WorldRead More

Today, April 14, 2014…10 days before “Van-Go” and I hit the road! Continued preparation is at hand. Today, the old laptop lets go of all the non-essentials…pics, documents, downloads, etc. Tomorrow?…stay tuned…
Before I get started, I must clear up one thing…yet a second name for my new home on wheels has bitten the dust. It seems that she had a name in mind all along and I just wasn’t paying attention. I had been seeing and thinking about the famous painting, “Starry Starry Night” beyond normal frequency! Then on my way to get gas one afternoon, it hit me…her name…her permanent name…would be ‘Van-Go’! How perfect, I thought! So let it be recorded…permanent name for my new home…’Van-Go’. Tentative date to officially begin my journey is April 24, 2014.Read More
I love it when adventures have adventures!!! The plan to drive Marie to Lubbock to get the van out on the open road was elaborated upon when I ended up staying overnight at the campsite at Palo Dura Canyon Sunday night instead of heading back to ABQ! With nothing but a blanket, a few bottles of water and a one serving container of Special K, “Flutterby” (the new official name for the van) and I honkered down approximately 800 feet into the canyon surrounded by about 100 Boy scouts!!! What a hoot! She gets about 15 mpg…pretty goodRead More
GUESS WHAT??? I am now the proud owner of a wonderful 2004 Sportsmobile pop top conversion van! My new home on wheels for the journeys ahead is snow white (I have plans for THAT!!!) with gorgeous blue upholstered interior! This is just a quick update…pictures will be posted soon! My friend and I will be leaving shortly to take the “Majestic” (van’s nickname…for now, anyway) on its first trip! Headed to Lubbock, TX…why, you might ask! That is her home base for a 2 month outreach job where she’ll be counseling military personnel around a 4 state regionRead More
Valentine’s Day…February 14th…biggest flower sale day of the entire year!!! This day is set aside to celebrate LOVE. A nice, but limiting concept! I may get Boo-ed for my thoughts on the over emphasis of this day, but a girl’s gotta say what a girl’s feelin’! Celebrating love is actually a fabulous idea…I say we do it EVERY DAY though! Skip the chocolates and flowers and the fancy dinners! Whether your special love is your pet, your spouse, your parent, your child, your coworker, your postal carrier or…YOURSELF…BE LOVE for that person every chance you get…daily when possible!Read More
There are many types of journeys. Some are so wonderful that you wish they could go on forever. Some are brief, yet nonetheless memorable. A few perhaps are less than delightful…LOL I recently completed a 6 month journey where every step along the way was more exciting than the one before!!! The details may not seem to be quite so spectacular to most, so I’m going to leave them out. Suffice it to say that the design was truly inspired and I thought it would be fun to share the masterpiece with you! It is truly a work of art. Read More
Have you acquired a 2014 calendar yet? Beware! LOL All my life, I’ve worked with calendars that began with Sunday and ended with Saturday! I was sure that all calendars were set up that way. WELL…I have recently learned that only monthly calendars are set up that way! Weekly calendars begin with Monday and end on Sunday! Hence, the expression…weekend! This discovery caused a bit of a shake-up to my visual system. To make matters worse, I bought a blank calendar with great over sized boxes that were going to be perfect to jot down travel notes. GivenRead More
The Winter Solstice in the Northern Hemisphere occurred 2 days and approximately 2 hours ago…Mountain time! The energetic pulse is still palpable! During a solstice, (winter/shortest day…summer/longest day) the Earth’s movement…TRAVEL…is one of the most useful and important phenomenons in astronomy…dictating the seasons. It is the moment the sun travels its shortest path through the sky providing the least sunlight. The Earth’s North Pole is tilted the farthest away from the sun denoting the onset of winter! Winter Solstice has meaning on a number of levels. Most literally, it refers to the “birth of the sun”…both universally and personally. Read More
Two of the visual wonders that I’ll be focusing on when I get on the road are waterfalls and national parks. Well, I had the opportunity last weekend to visit Carlsbad Caverns in southeastern NM with a friend. Now, officially, it is Carlsbad National Park!!! So, I’m wondering if I “cheated” by going there without an RV…without actually having begun my adventure? Hmmmm? Enough pondering…I VOTE NO!!! LOL My experience just before entering the caverns, I believe, contributed to preparing me for my adventure. When I realized the caverns’ path of ‘switchbacks’ lead to over 750′ beneath the earth’s surface…myRead More
