Firsts & Sioux City Surprises

Before I left for Iowa yesterday morning, I had a very interesting FIRST.  I did my dishes in the shower!!!  Last night…another FIRST…I stayed the night in a Walmart parking lot between very tall stacks of  mulch!       Finally, on a more serious note, I felt completely welcomed by a structure made entirely out of metal for the first time ever!  How is that possible you might ask.  There is a sacred place in this town, though based on Catholic theology, offers a place of prayer, solitude and beauty for all denominations!  It is called TrinityRead More

If It Ain’t Here…Go Find It

I’m baaaack!!!  A couple days of internet ‘drama’…par for this new lifestyle of mine, I guess!  LOL Knowing that I was heading out in the morning, I was determined to find at least one more human interest story, so I hiked uphill for a couple miles to the park office where I overheard a gentleman talking about an upcoming event here at the park.  I consider it a Bright Spot – their 3rd annual Outdoor Educational Rendezvous-offered free of charge-is happening this Friday.  A minimum of 500 students will learn from trained instructors and naturalists about the great outdoors firstRead More

Good News Around Every Bend

I’m going to begin with Bright Spots today!  Why not?! Big Springs, Nebraska: Pua, the receptionist at the Motel 6 desk this morning was delighted to share about her son, Holden.  He just received 3 sports awards, including MVP and participation.  He also earned his letters.  Even though Holden is only in 9th grade, he has been chosen to be on the VARSITY team at his school!  He excels in basketball AND football!  Good job, Holden!!!! North Platte, Nebraska: While visiting Union  Pacific’s Bailey Yard (the world’s largest train yard), I had the pleasure of talking with Jessica, whoRead More

First Week in a Nutshell

Week 1 is under my belt!  I’ve experienced much more than I can include here, but I’d like to share some highlights! Surprises:  I can live very comfortably with less water, electricity, auditory stimuli, food, changes of clothes                      and space.                  Being flexible regarding…..EVERYTHING is not only key…but FUN!                  Choosing joy is easier than I thought.                  I have remembered all the pre ‘start your engine’ steps!Read More

What a Difference a Day Makes

I arrived in ‘heaven’…Mountaindale Cabins & RV Resort…about 2 hours ago!  The first order of business was a long hot shower and it was amazing!  I immediately met a couple that has been full-timing it for 5 years…Jan and Phil!  We hit it off right away.  I invited them into Van-Go for a visit and they LOVED her….after all, what’s not to love!!!  We plan to get together later and chat some more!    I just got back from a stroll through the beautiful wilderness that permeates this area.  To my astonishment, I was not alone in thinking thatRead More

Weather Wonderland & Technology Trouble

Part 1- except for some moderately strong winds from Tucumcari, NM to Colorado Springs, CO…the weather cooperated for the duration of my 7 hour drive that should have only been 5!!!   My Garmin couldn’t locate my destination, so I used Google Maps on my phone, then my signal went out on the phone in the middle of nowhere!  You think THAT’S funny…well, I had glanced ahead a bit on the phone screen and what I thought said 419 as my next juncture was actually 412…………so a mere 120 miles later in a less than time efficient direction, I wasRead More

First Day on the Road

Well, here I am in Tucumcari, NM at a campsite that has Betty Boop at the entrance!!!   Gotta love it! It has been a very eventful first night!  I have neighbors that are 17 year veterans at full-timing it.  Dutch and Sherri.  They have a HUGE Ford E350 truck that is hauling a 41 foot rig with 3 slides and a 10 foot GARAGE attached…housing their motorcycles!!!  Van-Go looks like a thumbnail in comparison…lol    Oh, and I almost blew up my water tank this evening.  The gadget that I thought was the water pressure gauge was nothingRead More
