AL – The Clarkson Covered Bridge

Covered bridges intrigue me.  I was fortunate enough to have visited a few last year.  This one was the longest one I’ve seen and there was a waterfall on the property…what a great bonus!  Getting a little information on its original use was great too!  When we walked across the planks imagining those olden days when farmers and travelers had only this bridge to cross the Crooked Creek, we gained an appreciation for its value.  This bridge has great historical significance to the people in Cullman County.  It was partially wiped out by a flood and its salvagedRead More

AL – An OOPS!!! in Greenville

The OOPS happened in Greenville!  We were driving through the narrow little town looking for the High Horse Gallery that sounded fabulous on the Internet and was way up on the list of things to check out!  We were almost there, turned our last corner and saw a RR overpass just ahead with a 10′ clearance.  Carl and I looked at each other with a touch of panic in our eyes.  Well, we were involuntarily committed at that point…there’s no backing up a hill with a car in tow!!!  So we crept on under the bridge until we heardRead More

AL – The Natural Bridge

The welcoming pup…so sweet! He followed us around for awhile and even photo- bombed once!!!  One of our excursions in northern Alabama was to see this bridge.   It was awesome!  There was a teeny walk to it and then a great hike to go all around it and then under it!  It is the longest natural bridge this side of the Rockies!!!  I’ll be sure to find the one/s on the west side of the Rockies at some point!!!!! A peek-a-boo under the bridge Tree growing upside down! My attempt to get a shot of Carl as awesome asRead More

AL – Hidden Cove Resort and a Moment with a Fisherman

A speed limit sign with a picture of wine on it…LOL This was at the entrance of the vineyard…last stop I just have a thing for logging trucks Westward – Ho!  Here we go!  Between NC and AL, we spent the night at a Camping World parking lot and arrived at our campground right around noon.  What a beautiful property!  A pool was situated out at one end and a clubhouse at the other.  The lake there was so serene and the houses with boat slips along its shores looked like something you see on a postcard.  There wasRead More

SC – Myrtle Beach…North and South

Our campground in NC was so close to Myrtle Beach, SC we couldn’t pass up the chance to check out such a popular vacation spot and see what it was like in the winter!  We Googled North Myrtle Beach and we ended up in a nice little area with a beautiful pier, etc. BUT it wasn’t the Myrtle Beach that so many flock to in the summer months.  So after we walked the beach awhile, we drove another 3o minutes to THE Myrtle Beach.  This spot was much different, shops (closed) and beachy ambiance…even a huge ferris wheel;Read More

NC – Carrollwood Campground at Grapefull Sisters Vineyard & A Very BRIGHT SPOT

As I mentioned in my last post, we arrived in NC safely and the campground we had reservations for was very rustic and sweet.  It was privately owned by 2 sisters whose family has been on the property since the mid 1800’s. We survived doing a puzzle together…GO, US…LOL Now, THAT’S relaxingby the fire!!! LOL It was a gorgeous fire…go, Carl It was a full moon on the 26th!   Their vineyard consists solely of muscadine grapes.  They are native to southeastern US and are said to be the first grape to be cultivated in North America.  The naturalRead More

MD – My Birthday – Family, Friends, Food and Fun

Even though I was in MD in October for Matthew and Adam’s wedding, it was wonderful to be back again in January.  I was there for my 61st birthday, too!  What a fabulous party!  Thank you my sweet children for all your love, your time and yummy food and to Rachel and Megan for opening your home to us. My teeny tiny sundae…there’s always room for ice cream!    Aside from Carl meeting the kids, etc., I wanted to show him around a little while we were in town. We hit Fenwick Bakery and had breakfast with my sisterRead More

NC – The Union Station Museum…circa 1900 +

Before I get into the story of this quaint museum, I’d love to share a little about the place we stayed…the Sycamore Lodge!  It was fabulous.  The lodge was huge and there were rooms to accommodate many needs…a cozy yet spacious living room for watching TV, a rustic dining area with over-sized picnic-type tables and benches, a library for quiet time, an enclosed porch with tables for playing games or doing puzzles, a piano, and last but certainly not least a very roomy bathroom with an old-fashioned claw-foot tub and a double shower!  I got to take a bubbleRead More

SC – 90 Minute Super Visit

On the way into Greenville, SC      When calculating our mileage from GA to NC, it came to our attention that it was going to be a bit of a stretch to make the trip in one day.  So, of course, I immediately began to search for a midway point (with something fun to see…lol)  Lo and behold….a waterfalls…yippee!  We added another hour to our drive, but since we were splitting it up by staying one night on South Carolina…it was a moot point!      The picture of the falls looked wonderful, but I’ve learned to beRead More
